LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A day before Thornton’s is set to close its First and Broadway location, fencing now surrounds the facility.
A company spokesperson told WHAS11 news the location at South First Street and West Broadway is set to close on Feb. 26.
An official reason for the closure has not been given, but crime data from Louisville Metro Police from the last year showed at least 34 crimes in the area including assault, theft and robbery.
In 2022, a security guard at the gas station shot someone over a stolen beer, claiming self-defense. Ultimately, Tavon Parrish plead guilty to the crime. He's serving six-and-a-half years in prison for second-degree manslaughter.
Those who frequent the downtown area still have options for gas – a station at South Hancock and East Broadway and South First Street and West Jefferson.
