‘It’s really disappointing…’ | Trees Louisville equipment stolen nearly a month after moving into new location

Thieves broke into the gate sometime between last Saturday and Sunday night and stole thousands of dollars worth equipment belonging to the nonprofit.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A trail of skid marks are now left inside Trees Louisville gated property where some of its equipment had been stored.

Thieves broke into the gate sometime between last Saturday and Sunday night and stole thousands of dollars worth equipment belonging to the nonprofit.

"We've checked with all of our neighbors and our next door neighbors said that they heard some stuff going on around midnight, " Cindi Sullivan, executive director at Trees Louisville, said. "We don't know if that was the beginning of it or when it actually happened."

Sullivan said the culprits cut the gates lock and stole a utility trailer and a water rig.

The theft has caused the nonprofit to be without proper resources and has delayed them from watering and caring for tree canopy this week.

"You've got to water it for the first couple of years diligently and then that water rig allows us to do a lot of trees at the same time," Sullivan said.

Trees Louisville just moved into it's new location less than a month ago right on South Shelby Street.

"We've lived here for 20 days before we had the robbery so it's really disappointing that this happened," she explained.

In the meantime, the organization is using smaller tanks to water trees which Sullivan said requires more time and effort.

Thieves got through this fence to steal equipment belonging to Trees Louisville.

"When you feel like you're an organization that dedicates so much to your community it's just disappointing that things like this can happen," Sullivan said.

She has one message for the thief or thieves who made off with the equipment.

"If you have our equipment we would like for you to bring it back we won't tell anybody," she said.

Sullivan remains hopeful someone will find the stolen equipment soon.
