SHOALS, Ind. — An Indiana couple is facing charges for child neglect after their infant was hospitalized for extreme weight loss, according to a release from the Indiana State Police (ISP).

They say on Oct. 31, ISP began an investigation after getting information from child services about neglect of a two-month-old infant with extreme weight loss.

The investigation revealed 22-year-old Pearl Crowder and 23-year-old Isiah Beavers allegedly neglected the child which led to them being rushed to the IU Bedford Emergency Hospital and later taken to the Riley Children's Hospital.

The infant required emergency medical treatment to survive due to being unconscious from severe malnutrition.

After reviewing the investigation, the Martin County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant on Dec. 13 for Crowder and Beavers.

They were arrested on Dec. 16 and taken to the Martin County Jail where they are being held on bond.

They are both facing charges for Neglect of a Dependent Causing Catastrophic Bodily Injury to a Minor- Level 1 Felony.
