LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two people plead guilty to multiple felony charges on Thursday, all related to an August 2021 shooting in Louisville, according to a press release from the Gerina D. Whethers.
On August 14, 2021 Dakaisha West drove Kevin Thompson to the Triple Crown Car Wash. When the pair got there Thompson shot Kyle Elzy multiple times in the head, the release said.
After the shooting Thompson robbed Elzy's body. Both Thompson and West drove away from the scene and left the state.
West also helped Thompson get rid of the clothes he wore during the shooting, the release said.
Thompson plead guilty to charges of murder and robbery in the first degree.
The Commonwealth is recommending a sentence of 36 years in prison on the murder charge and 20 years on the robbery charge, to run concurrently for a total of 36 years.
West plead guilty to charges of criminal facilitation to murder, criminal facilitation to robbery in the first degree, and tampering with physical evidence.
The Commonwealth is recommending a sentence for her of 5 years in prison on each charge, to run concurrently for a total of 5 years.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 2 at 9 a.m. in Division Five of Jefferson County Circuit Court.
“We will use every tool in our toolbelt to hold criminals accountable, especially for the most heinous of crimes,” Whethers said. “Whether it is through a substantial plea agreement like this one, or by proving our case to a jury, we will do whatever it takes to stop the ongoing plague of shootings in our city and get justice for victims and their families.”
Thompson must serve a minimum 20 years in prison before he ever goes to the parole board. He is ineligible for probation or shock probation.
The release said the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office will object to any probation considerations for West.
