2 students charged for threats aimed at Ballard High School

In a letter sent to parents on Monday, Principal Jason Neuss said the school received two unrelated threats over the last couple of days.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ballard High School is the latest school in Kentucky to be faced with threats and now, two students’ actions will have consequences.

In a letter sent to parents on Monday, Principal Jason Neuss said the school received two unrelated threats over the last couple of days.

As a precaution, the school increased its security level, restricted outdoor activities and contacted JCPS Police.

Investigators identified the students they said were responsible on Monday.

Neuss explained while few threats are credible, any aimed at Ballard or any other school, they take seriously.

“We also want students to understand that their words have serious consequences. Should they make any sort of threat involving Ballard, our staff or students, they will be disciplined and will likely be prosecuted,” he said.

The students will be facing criminal charges and will be disciplined according to JCPS’ student handbook.

FBI Louisville said issuing a threat on social media, or even through text or email is considered a felony.

With the rise of these threats targeting schools across Kentucky and even on a national level, the FBI is asking students, teachers and parents to remain vigilant and report them urgently.

Reports can also be made by calling the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or on the agency's website by clicking here.
