LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Union workers at GE Appliance Park in southeastern Jefferson County have voted to not accept a proposed four year agreement between the workers and the company on Thursday.

In a statement, the company said its disappointed the workers struck down the agreement.

"Together, our represented employees and the Company must make decisions that will allow us to continue to support our customers and drive new business in a challenging appliance industry," they wrote. "We need a fair contract that recognizes employee contributions and allows the Company to continue to reinvest in the future."

The union president said they rejected the proposed contract by 73%.

"We'll work diligently to get the company to return to the table, but our members need to be prepared to strike, should the company refuse," union president Dino Driskell said. "The company has seen its revenue double, achieved record market share growth, and emerged as the fastest growing appliances manufacturer in the United States. This success is, in large part due to the sacrifices made by our members. They deserve fair compensation for their contributions to the company's achievements."
