'Love of my life': Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie's wife Rhonda Massie dies

Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie announced on social media his wife died on Thursday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie's wife, Rhonda Massie, died Thursday, according to a post shared by the congressman on social media.

Thomas Massie, who represents Kentucky's 4th Congressional District, said in his social post that Rhonda and he were high school sweethearts and have been together for over 35 years.

"Yesterday my high school sweetheart, the love of my life for over 35 years, the loving mother of our 4 children, the smartest kindest woman I ever knew, my beautiful and wise queen forever, Rhonda went to Heaven," Thomas Massie said.

Massie celebrated his wife's accomplishments in his post, saying she was valedictorian at their high school and was accepted into MIT and Harvard. He added she received her degree in mechanical engineering at MIT.

Following Massie's announcement, several other Kentucky politicians expressed their support for the Massie family.

Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said Massie and his family would be in his thoughts and prayers.

Rep. Andy Barr, who represents Kentucky's 6th Congressional District, wrote on social media that Rhonda's "warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

U.S. Rep. James Comer, who represents the state's 1st Congressional District, said Massie's wife was a "beautiful person both inside and out."

Kentucky Rep. Brett Guthrie, who represents the state's 2nd Congressional District, wrote that Rhonda was an "incredible woman."

Information has not been released about the cause of Rhonda Massie's death.

"Thank you for your prayers for our family in this difficult time," Thomas Massie wrote in his post.
