LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently released how many dog attacks against postal workers were reported in each U.S. city last year, and Louisville was among the cities that saw the most attacks.
Across the nation, nearly 6,000 dog attacks on postal workers were reported in 2023. Louisville was ranked 14th among the cities with the most dog attacks on postal workers with a total of 28 reported attacks.
Topping the list, the U.S. city with the most reported dog attacks against postal workers was Los Angeles with 65 total attacks last year.
Nearby Indianapolis sat just above Louisville in the rankings with 30 reported dog attacks on postal workers.
These findings were released as a part of National Dog Bite Awareness Week, which took place the first week on June.
How to prevent dog attacks
To keep your mailperson safe, USPS advises you to secure your dog before a carrier approaches your home.
You should keep your dog inside or behind a fence, in another room or on a leash.
The postal service also recommends using its free informed delivery service, so you can anticipate when your mail will arrive.
