(WHAS11)-Kentuckiana's Value City Department Stores have filed for bankruptcy and could be closing.

The Ohio-based company blames declining sales, tight credit and a bad economy.

The retail chain has closed more than 75 stores since December.

Officials said there is no word on if or when Kentuckiana stores would close.

This does not affect the furniture stores, they are owned by a different company.
