LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Volunteers in Oldham County took advantage of the dry and cool weather today to help flood victims and clean up Westport Park.
At least 35 homes in Westport were affected by the flooding and are just beginning to get power back to their homes.
Volunteers helped clean-up debris and trash in the area Sunday.
Local restaurants donated food to volunteers and the American Red Cross sent resources to help the efforts.
Westport Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief David Pendleton said the community didn't hesitate to come out and help.
"It's about giving when other people are in need, and that's really what the world is about anymore. With all of the sad things going on, people always want to help. When disaster strikes, that's when you start seeing the good in folks."
Fire crews also secured about 10 propane tanks they found floating in the water while they were there.
