LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) A radio legend, known as the Duke of Louisville, has died.

Bill Bailey died Saturday morning at the Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Pewee Valley where he had been living since he had a stroke in 2003. He was 81-years-old.

Bailey was a staple on Kentuckiana's airways in the 60s and 70s with a morning show on WAKY. He often partnered with WHAS11's own Reed Yadon.

Bill Bailey's real name was William Boahn. He started his radio career in Louisville in 1965 working the mornings for WKLO. He went to Chicago in 1969 but returned to Louisville just one year later. Bailey worked at WAKY and WCII until 1987, when he moved to Baltimore.

When asked about Bill Bailey's legacy, Reed Yadon had some words:

'Bill was a guy that had a heart of gold and the ability to make people laugh and make people smile and turn a bad day into a better one,' says Yadon.

Reed Yadon and Great Day Live's Terry Meiners joined WHAS11 for 11@11 on Saturday to talk about their time with Bailey.

A visitation for Bailey will be held on Tuesday, January 17 from 11 to 6 at Pearson-Ratterman Brother's Funeral Home in Middletown. His funeral will follow immediately.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the
