$5M going to Waterfront Botanical Gardens in Louisville; Here's how it will be used

It's considered a birthday gift since it opened in 2019.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Millions of dollars are headed to Louisville's Botanical Gardens as a birthday gift.

On Thursday, the Gardens reported it's getting $5 million split between the state's general assembly and Metro Government.

The money will help support the Gardens' master plan to fully develop its 23-acre site since opening back in 2019.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg was at the site to help award the funding.

He said the gardens is a perfect example for both the state and Metro to work together, to invest in what's a driving force for tourism.

We're gonna continue working together in partnership to move projects like this forward to make Louisville a safer city, a healthier city, which in turn strengthens the entire commonwealth, and brings people from all over the country to visit us right here, to spend money in our city, to create jobs here," Greenberg said.

Officials said the money will go towards the creation of several projects, including its Bonsai Garden and Beargrass Creek Overlook.
