Louisvillians take advantage of warm weather with 'Waterfront Dancing'

The group gets the community together to to brush up on the salsa and bachata dance skills while meeting new people.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It was a warm and sunny Sunday, and some in the community took advantage to get some fresh air.

Waterfront Dancing, a community group, has been getting people together for 11 years to do salsa and bachata dance outdoors.

It also gives people a chance to brush up on their skills while meeting new people.

The event normally doesn’t start until later in the year, but organizer Andrea Valarezo said once she saw the forecasted weather this weekend, she knew what she had to do.

“We looked at the weather this week, and I said it’s going to be 56 degrees, sunny – so why not come outside and dance a little bit,” Valarezo explained. “We normally do this after Derby around the end of May and we’re here through October – sometimes November depending on the weather.”

Valarezo said there are normally 20 to 25 people that show up to dance, but nicer weather brings even more people out.
