Wawa breaks ground on first Louisville location

Wawa plans to open five locations across Louisville in 2025.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Wawa broke ground on its first Kentucky location in Louisville on Wednesday.

The store will be located near Preston Crossing Boulevard. Officials met to celebrate the groundbreaking with hoagies and hardhats.

Wawa, a privately held, family-owned convenience store, plans to open five locations across Louisville in 2025. There are also plans to open several stores across Indiana, including in Clarksville.

The end goal is to have 40 new Wawa stores around Kentucky and Indiana.

"Each one of these stores is a $7.5 million investment, more than 140 construction jobs for each site, and 30-40 jobs at each location," John Poplawski, VP-Chief Real Estate Officer for Wawa, said during Wednesday's groundbreaking.

Officials said their supply chain partners are following Wawa to Kentucky and building facilities here as well.

The company also announced new community partnerships with Dare to Care food bank and Kentucky Special Olympics, giving each organization $10,000.

Wawa offers various foods, beverages, coffee, gas and surcharge-free ATMs.
