Wayfair, the online home furnishings and decor retailer, will be opening a retail outlet in Florence this year.

The retail outlet store will be located at 5101 Renegade Way, off Ted Bushelman Boulevard. It will open this fall.

"We look forward to sharing additional information as the grand opening nears," the city said online.

In April, Reviewed.com reported Wayfair was rumored to be opening a storefront on the Boston area. Now, Florence is on the map as one of the few cities that has been given the opportunity.

Mayor Diane Whalen said it's a great opportunity for the city and shows that Florence is a known market that has shown continued success for many businesses.

"Florence is the place to be," she said.

Wayfair is one of the many businesses that has expanded around the airport and Aero Parkway. Hunt said proximity to the airport and DHL is without a doubt one of the reasons why the area is so attractive to logistics companies and retailers like Amazon and Wayfair.

"As we continue to expand our economy and streamline business requirements it's paying off and it continues to pay dividends for this type of facility," Whalen said.

For Whalen, who has watched the city grow during her time as mayor, the continued growth is more than just a boost to business, it also pays off for residents. She said landing businesses like Wayfair is one of the reasons the city's real estate tax hasn't budged.

Wayfair also operates a distribution center in the Florence area located at 1600 Donaldson Road in Erlanger. The distribution center is larger than about 15 football fields.

Florence's Business and Community Development Director Josh Hunt said Wayfair is one of three tenants that can fit in the 260,000-square-foot warehouse. The warehouse was developed by Vantrust, which has a long-term lease with the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport.

The city also said Wayfair will use the space for distribution, warehousing, fulfillment, returns processing, office and an accessory outlet center.

The primary use of the space will be distribution, warehousing and returns processing. The outlet center will be approximately 20,000 square feet.

Hunt said the other two tenants have not been confirmed but said logistics companies have been interested in spaces near the airport.

The building is still under construction and Hunt said it will likely open in early October.
