LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A private boys school in the West End is now accepting applications for it's first girls school, according to a press release.
West End School is a tuition free private school for boys in Louisville's Chickasaw neighborhood. Currently, the school has 140 boys enrolled in Pre-K through 2nd grade.
In August 2025, the school plans to open for girls in grades Pre-K through 2nd grade. After the initial class, the school plans to grow each year until they can offer Pre-K through 8th grade for girls.
“I am honored to be at the helm for this significant milestone," President and Head of Schools Greg Ross said. "For our families that have both boys and girls, it has been difficult for them to see their son having an educational experience that was not available to their daughters. I am thankful to the visionary donors in our community that are committed to bringing the West End School experience to girls.”
Parents who are interested in sending their children to West End School can complete an application on the schools website.
Applications are due on Jan. 31, 2025. Applicants will know if they're accepted by March 2025.
The school says planning for a girls school began in 2022 and is currently under construction. The school will cost $11.5 million to build.
Each class is limited to 15 students, so the school recommends parents apply early.
Since this would be the schools first class of girls, new applicants will be assessed onsite on March 4 or 11, the school says.
“West End School will ensure that the application process is fair and equitable and will consider academic ability, if the family already has a student attending and their financial status," Board Chair Barry Barlow said.
