LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – WHAS Radio 840 says it will announce a programming change Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
The moves comes one week after it re-signed longtime personality Terry Meiners to a new 6-year deal. Terry has hosted his 3-7 p.m. time slot since 1985. But a news release sent out last week by WHAS Radio had his time period listed as "3-6 p.m."
Terry told me that he can't comment on the change to be announced tomorrow, but it will be rolled out during his radio program. The station must also announce soon what it will do to fill the vacancy being created by the departure of popular SportsTalk host Lachlan McLean from 7-9 p.m. After 11 years on the air, he leaves for Charlotte, North Carolina on May 15.
Terry has become the longest serving broadcaster on the air today in the Louisville market. He started on WLRS radio in October 1980 and joined WHAS AM in 1985. That puts him at 35 years on the air in Louisville, 30 of which have been served with WHAS AM.
Terry also co-hosts WHAS TV's Great Day LIVE program. The new deal for Terry keeps him on the air until age 64. He told me, "There's no way I could retire. I love this job and what it brings every day." But he added that after the six years are up, "I'm done after that."
He's a Louisville native who grew up on Texas Avenue in Germantown. Terry started in radio in Lexington in 1976 while a student at the University of Kentucky.
