WHAS11 anchor, meteorologist share why they're wearing all black

The Junior League of Louisville is trying to raise awareness of youth houselessness. How? By asking people to participate in the Little Black Dress Initiative.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — If you've noticed some of the anchors and meteorologists at WHAS11 News wearing black all week, there's a reason.

The Junior League of Louisville is running a campaign where members of the media will wear either the same black dress or black outfit for five consecutive days as part of the Little Black Dress Initiative.

According to a release, the nonprofit's current focus is on youth experiencing houselessness.

One in three young adults aging out of foster care in Kentucky will face housing instability by the age of 21 according to the Junior League of Louisville. And for the 2022-23 school year, there were more than 20,000 houseless students in Kentucky.

The Junior League of Louisville is partnering with Dress for Success to provide professional clothing to youth experiencing houselessness.

Anyone who wishes to donate money directly to Junior League of Louisville can do so here.

Professional clothing donations will be accepted through Feb. 25 at the following Highland Cleaners:

  • 4039 Taylorsville Road
