LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory and a winter storm warning for portions of the WHAS11 viewing area.
Winter weather advisory continues for areas south of Louisville, along and south of the Bluegrass and Western Kentucky Parkways to the Cumberland Parkway until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Additionally, there is a winter storm warning that includes Adair county and areas south.
Additional light accumulation Monday evening will keep roads snow-covered and slick and hazardous, especially the farther south that you travel.
SNOWFALL
We have another wave of snow that will continue to push into the area through this evening. Impacts remain low to minor for Jefferson County and surrounding counties, less than one inch is expected.
Accumulating snow is most likely south of the Parkways where 2 or 3 inches may fall. Those communities could see slick roads and hazardous travel Tuesday morning. We will dry out and see some sunshine for Tuesday and Wednesday before our next potential snow system arrives Thursday.
EXTREME COLD
We will continue to see frigid temperatures across Kentuckiana! Lows for the next few nights will be around 10 degrees with wind chills -8 to 4 degrees. Highs will struggle to stay in the teens. It's not until Thursday afternoon where we could see temperatures get above freezing, but only for a brief period of time. Cold air will stick around through the weekend.
PROTECT PETS
Please do NOT keep pets outside in this extreme of weather! Adding straw to bedding will help contain the heat if animals are in barns. There are shelters and resources available in Louisville.
