Woman convicted of manslaughter sentenced on probation violation

Rebecca Johnson received an additional 45 days probation after being re-arrested less than six months prior to completing her probation.

(WHAS11) Rebecca Johnson received an additional 45 days probation after being re-arrested less than six months prior to completing her probation.

In 2006, Rebecca Johnson was under the influence of alcohol when she crashed her car into a railroad gate at Chamberlain Lane and LaGrange Road. The accident killed two of her passengers, Justin Cantrell and Ben McIntosh.

Johnson was sentenced to 20 years, but ended up with five years probation.

She violated that probation in January when she was arrested again on alcohol-related offenses.

Judge Geoffrey Morris gave her 45 days with work and medical release.

Her attorney Bart Adams feels it's fair, but the Cantrell family says she's been let off the hook once again.

'I think it would have better to have her serve out her probation on home incarceration. But due to the pain medication issues, I think he did as good of job as he could do under the circumstances,' said Johnson's attorney Bart Adams.

Johnson's attorney says she suffers from ongoing closed brain injuries that impair her judgment and require her to be on pain medications.

The victim's family says they don't buy that story.

'I'm totally disappointed with the sentence, but it's better than we got six years ago. She killed two people six years ago and did not spent one minute in jail at least this time when she was on drugs, she will spend 45 days in jail,' said Tammy Williams, Justin Cantrall's mother.

Johnson will report to jail Monday morning at 9 a.m. Her five year probation will not be affected and is still scheduled to end in July.
