Fallen service members honored with holiday wreath-laying ceremony

More than 8,000 wreaths were placed on the graves of service members at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery over the weekend.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Wreaths Across America are paying tribute to fallen heroes.

More than 8,000 wreaths were placed on the graves of service members at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery on Blankenbaker Lane over the weekend.

It is part of a national campaign across the U.S. this year with 3,000 cemeteries participating.

The tribute is meant to honor service members and their sacrifices during the holiday season.

For families, the simple gesture of a wreath on a grave can mean so much.

“It means a lot to the community, and it means a lot to the families whose loved ones are buried here – that their community comes out to support them in this way,” co-coordinator Susan Kalmey said.

Louisville Honor started collecting donated wreaths for the event in early November.
