Well-behaved boxer mix at LMAS gets along with everyone and is looking for a new family!

This week’s WHAS11 Shelter Star is a well-behaved boxer mix who gets along well with cats, dogs and kids!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Every week we tell you about a dog desperately needing a new home, we call them our WHAS11 Shelter Stars. These are dogs from Louisville Metro Animal Services who are at-risk because of overcrowding and limited space.

Two-year-old Zeus is known for being well-behaved and getting along with everyone. He especially loves cuddling with his humans.

"He just wants all the love that you can have and he will take it,” Lilah Weiss, an LMAS staff member, said.

Zeus has one of those special personalities that blends with just about everyone.

"He did amazing with my two dogs at home,” Weiss explained. "One is one, puppy energy, and then an older dog that doesn't like other dogs. He was super gentle with the older one, and playful with the younger one."

She works at Metro Animal Services but will take dogs home for foster to give them a break from shelter staff. She did that for Zeus, and he won her over.

"He is the most perfect dog," Weiss said. "Honestly, I wish I could keep him."

Zeus knows basic commands like sit and down. He's easy to walk on a leash. As a relatively small guy at 40 pounds, Weiss said his energy is easy to manage.

"If you're looking for a super easy, adaptable dog, Zeus is the one. He does great with kids, dogs. He did really great with my cats. He's so cuddly. He wants to be held all the time.”

She said she could see him fitting in, in any home and she's hopeful his time in the shelter is coming to an end.

The sweet dog is one of the hundreds of dogs at Louisville Metro Animals Services waiting for a family to take him home.

Right now, Zeus is available for adoption at The Animal House on Newburg Road. You can meet him any day of the week between noon and 6 p.m.

Don’t forget the 3-3-3 rule.

The first three days after you adopt a dog, they won't be comfortable enough to be themselves. They may hide, avoid food or water, and feel overwhelmed. After three weeks in the home, they'll start to settle in, hopefully feeling comfortable enough to explore and let their guard down. You may notice behavior problems, and this could be a good time to work on training. But realistically it will take three months for the animals to be completely comfortable in their new home.

Shay McAlister will be introducing you to a new dog every week in our WHAS Shelter Stars series. You can watch on WHAS11 at 4 p.m. every Thursday.
