LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An Owensboro man scored a big win in the Kentucky Lottery.
Richard Main came close to winning the Kentucky Lottery's Cash Ball top prize, only to discover he was one number away from taking home $225,000.
Main continued to try and try and, two weeks later, he found himself holding a winning ticket.
He matched the four white ball numbers and the Cash Ball in the April 29 drawing -- winning $225,000.
“Wow, it happened!” Main said. “I said, ‘I know it’s going to happen.' I got too close!”
He told lottery officials he was still happy to have won $2,250 on the previous ticket.
Main said he only plays the lottery every now and then.
“I’ll get a feeling,” he said. “You can’t win if you don’t play. I’ve been kind of in shock.”
After taxes, Main received a check for $162,000.
He told lottery officials he didn't have any immediate plans for the winnings, but might take a vacation.
“I’m going to put it in the bank and let it ride out,” he said.
“I’ll be back,” Main told officials as he was leaving the lottery headquarters. “Positive begets positive.”
The Kroger located on Starlite Drive in Owensboro will receive $2,250 for selling the winning ticket.
