LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. — A nurse in Lawrenceburg, Ky., who wishes to remain anonymous, won a $277,183.75 jackpot last month while playing the Kentucky Lottery online.

“I’m a nurse and had just gotten done working back-to-back shifts so I was exhausted,” she said. “I started playing to just zone out before bed.”

Shortly after, she realized she hit the jackpot. “I saw stars coming down, so I knew it was a big win,” she told lottery officials. “They kept falling and I knew what that meant. I couldn’t believe it.”

“I was wide awake,” she said.

She woke up her husband who she said also had a hard time believing it, asking her, “Are you sure?”

The Anderson County couple had been playing the Kentucky Lottery online for a couple of years but had never won anything this big. “I kept checking my email to make sure it was real,” she said.

The couple traveled to the Kentucky Lottery headquarters in Louisville on Sept. 30th to collect their check for $199,572.30 after taxes. With the winnings, they said they plan to pay off student loans and invest in their future.
