LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky woman quit her job after winning thousands of dollars on a lottery scratch-off ticket.
Lottery officials said Reshawn Toliver was at Skyline Fuel in Hopkinsville earlier this month when she bought five of the $5 Wild Cash Multiplier Scratch-off tickets.
Toliver was at home when she scratched her tickets, while her son and boyfriend sat in another room. As she scratched the last ticket off, she revealed three “7” symbols on Game 2. By matching three identical symbols in the same game, players win the prize shown for that game.
“I figured it was going to be another $5 win,” she said. “I even rolled my eyes in frustration when I saw that.”
That is until Toliver found out she won the game’s $90,000 top prize.
“I screamed! I’ve never hollered that loud before,” she said.
Toliver told lottery officials her son and boyfriend didn’t know what was happening.
“They were like, ‘what’s going on? Are you okay?’' she said. “I needed to calm down. I was lost for a minute. One minute, it’s like breathe, the next minute, it’s like stop laughing. I can hear the scream over and over again in my head.”
Toliver ended up receiving a check for $64,800.
She told lottery officials that she had been wanting to quit her job and find something else and winning the lottery allowed her to do that.
“I was unhappy with my job and God made a way,” Toliver said. “I felt bad leaving but I’m relieved to be able to quit my job.”
Officials said Skyline Fuel will receive $900 for selling the winning ticket.
