LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Editor's note: the above video is regarding the Powerball.
A Louisville man couldn't help but get emotional last month when he realized how much money he won from a lottery scratch-off ticket.
Charles Stallard, who lives in the Valley Station neighborhood, stopped at Price Less Foods on Dixie Highway Feb. 9 to buy groceries. He picked up a $5 50X The Cash ticket and won the game's $150,000 top prize.
It was more than he imagined.
“When it came up 50 times, I figured it was going to be $5,” Stallard said. “When I scratched off $3,000, I actually started crying. I couldn’t believe it.”
Stallard walked away with $108,000 after taxes.
“I didn’t get much sleep all weekend,” he said. “For the first time in my life, I’m not in debt. I get to pay my house off.”
Stallard said his boat has been broken down for a year. He plans to get it repaired and spend the rest of the year fishing every chance he gets.
Price Less Foods will receive $1,500 for selling the winning ticket.
