LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man, who wishes to remain anonymous, has claimed his prize from the March 5 Mega Millions drawing. The Jefferson County man cashed in the ticket worth $1 million on Monday, lottery officials confirmed.
The winner told lottery officials he checked his ticket Saturday morning on the Kentucky Lottery's website and realized he was holding a winning ticket. The ticket matched the first five white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball number from the drawing.
He said he checked the ticket a second time, at a store, while on his way to work and got the confirmation he was hoping for.
“I was kind of in shock. I can say I went to work in a good mood,” he told lottery officials.
The $8 ticket had four sets of quick pick numbers on it and It was the third set of numbers that won him the game’s second prize.
After cashing in the ticket, he received a check for $710,000, after taxes were withheld. He told lottery officials that he's in his early 50’s and the money will help prepare for retirement.
“It’s a nice little cushion,” he said.
The man purchased the ticket at Circle K on Bardstown Road. The store will receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
The winning Mega Millions numbers from the Friday, March 5 drawing are 10, 11, 17, 27, 54 with a Mega Ball of 20.
