4-year-old burned in Christmas fire in Sacramento opens gifts after being released from hospital

A fire on Christmas Day left 4-year-old David and his dad with burns that landed them a lengthy hospital stay.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A 4-year-old boy burned in a Sacramento house fire on Christmas Day 2023 was recently released from the hospital after a lengthy stay.

Sacramento fire officials say they rescued the boy and his father while they were unresponsive in the home around 5:30 p.m. before rushing them to the hospital.

Family member Rosa Castellano tells ABC10 that 4-year-old David was released while his father was moved out of the ICU and remains in the hospital at UC Davis undergoing surgery.

One of the first things David did after being released from the hospital was open his Christmas presents, according to Castellano.
