Porch piracy is no laughing matter. But a bumbling crook is.
The Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland shared a video of a man grabbing a widescreen TV from a porch on Nov. 29 in Fort Washington.
The bumbling bandit, however, falls over the oversize box while carrying it to the getaway car. He then tries repeatedly to get it into the car, first into the back seat, then into the trunk.
Finally, the inept offender manages to get the box partially into the back seat of the car, and he and his accomplice sped away.
The search continues for the clumsy criminal.
Here are some tips to avoid falling victim to porch piracy:
- If possible, pick up the ordered item at the store
- Ship the item to your workplace
- Have a neighbor keep an eye out for the item if you know you won’t be home during the delivery window
- Have the item sent to a friend or family member who is home during normal delivery hours
- If possible, ship the item to an Amazon Locker, UPS Office, FedEx Office or the nearest post office
- Require a signature at the time of delivery
