Beshear attacks Trump-Vance lies; says Harris' policies will move country forward in ABC's This Week appearance

During his Sunday morning appearance, Gov. Beshear talked about a potential Harris presidency and the misinformation about FEMA being put out by Trump and Vance.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Election Day is in 22 days and the race between Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is tighter than ever.

Gov. Andy Beshear, who has been campaigning for Harris and even made it to her VP shortlist, made an appearance on ABC’s This Week with Martha Raddatz and called out misinformation from the former president and his running mate, JD Vance.

Both Trump and Vance have faced scrutiny about misinforming the public about FEMA response in the southeast, particularly in North Carolina.

The Harris campaign has been leaping on these claims, calling Trump a liar and a threat to democracy.

“His lies can hurt people. I mean, lying that $750 is all that’s available, that means that individual might not apply for the $40,000 plus in individual assistance,” Beshear explained. “Like if you truly care about the people that are harmed more than yourself, you wouldn’t politicize this. You wouldn’t be putting out all this misinformation and that’s [coming from] somebody who has led through national disasters. It hurts.”

Raddatz pressed Beshear on several issues including Harris’ policies and if her possible presidency would be different or a continuation of the Biden administration.

He cited Biden’s plans on building a future economy and how Kentucky building two of the biggest battery plants on Earth has happened through Biden’s policies.

The article highlighted Gov. Beshear's achievements in 2024.

“We built the cleanest, greenest recycled paper mill the world has ever seen. Those are all through his policies, but hers are about right now. How do we help the American people that are struggling to pay the bills? And that's middle-class tax breaks. That's affordable housing. That's the childcare tax break. All the things that she is working on will help us get through the next six months and the next year, so that we will walk into this really strong economy that's being built out there,” he said.

With the election right around the corner, Americans still have questions about the economy. According to an ABC News and Ipsos poll, 59% of Americans polled believe the state of the nation’s economy is getting worse while 23% feel it’s getting better.

Making the rich pay their fair share is something Biden has said throughout his presidency, and it has even been echoed by Vice President Harris. Would she be able to make it happen through a potential Republican Senate?

One proposed change Vice President Kamala Harris wants to do to Medicare is allow it to cover in-home health care.

‘[Harris is] telling you what her values are and the idea that those that have benefited from the United States of America, from being able to get out there and live the American dream and have created wealth for themselves and their family should pay back into America to make sure that that dream is available for everybody else,” he said.

Through it all, Beshear said taking a closer look at Harris’ overall policies will show she is a change.

“I think what you're seeing is someone who has been in the Senate, who has that expertise, who has cast tie-breaking votes, and when you look at her policies, is seeking common ground with common sense. And ultimately that helps all of us. It helps her govern closer to the center in a way where she can build confidence from all the American people because after this election, after she wins, we've got to get past this constant us versus them,” he said.

Beshear said he has “full confidence” a Harris and Walz administration will lead the U.S. in the right direction.
