LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Gubernatorial candidate Matt Bevin picked up an endorsement from a group of Louisville's spiritual leaders Wednesday.
The Kentucky Pastors in Action Coalition, a group that actively campaigns for school of choice for Kentucky students, officially backed Bevin based largely on his Education First platform.
Three dozen people were on hand to greet Bevin and his running mate Jenean Hampton in a Parkland church Wednesday, both to support the candidates and speak about how children are struggling in the current system.
""There is no other issue that confronts west Louisville and the black community and the low income white community," said Pastor Jerry L. Stephenson. "Let me tell you my white brothers and sisters; your children are not doing well either."
Bevin has made education reform a talking point over the course of his campaign, often speaking out against Common Core and in favor of school-of-choice vouchers.
