Daniel Cameron concedes 2023 gubernatorial race to Gov. Andy Beshear

The Associated Press announced Beshear's win just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has won the governorship for a second term, and the GOP candidate has conceded.

"Well that didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to," Daniel Cameron said.

Cameron and his wife, Makenze, took to the stage at the Downtown Marriott to a crowd of Republicans and supporters Tuesday night and thanked them "for [their] willingness and commitment to this campaign and this effort."

"We want a better Commonwealth, one in which it can ultimately be a shining city on a hill, a model and example for the rest of the nation to follow," he said. "That's what it's about here on this earth, about leaving better, it better than you found it, and giving a better future for your kids and your grandkids."

Cameron said he also called Beshear before his speech to congratulate him on his re-election.

The Associated Press announced Beshear's win just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The highly watched race put the national spotlight on Kentucky to determine insight into what could happen in the 2024 election.
