Kentucky's secretary of state releases preliminary early voting numbers

Voter turnout overall for the May 16 primary is expected to be around 10%, according to Secretary of State Michael Adams.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Secretary of State Michael Adams has released some numbers from early voting turnout.

More than 23,000 Kentuckians used no-excuse early voting on Thursday.

Meanwhile, more than 11,000 Kentuckians have returned their mail-in absentee ballot.

To put this into perspective, more than 38,000 have already cast their ballot in the 2023 primary. At this same time in 2022, that number pushed over 53,000.

Turnout for the 2022 and 2019’s primary was at 19% and Adams says it is expected to be much lower this year at 10%.

Early voting here in Louisville has been a smooth process.

Poll Workers and early voters told WHAS11 News they have been overall pleased with how easy it was to vote.

Primary voting will take place on May 16 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
