Kentucky incumbents win easily in rare unfinished primaries

But many races were left in suspense and won’t be resolved for days after an unprecedented primary election in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Republican stalwarts Mitch McConnell, Hal Rogers and Brett Guthrie have breezed to their party’s nominations Tuesday night in Kentucky. 

Undeterred by President Donald Trump's criticism, Rep. Thomas Massie who represents the state's 4th District, also won his nomination. 

Rep. Andy Barr, who just laid his wife to rest after her unexpected death, has the nomination to represent the 6th District. 

But many races were left in suspense and won’t be resolved for days after an unprecedented primary election in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Topping the list of undecided races was the contest for the Democratic nomination to challenge Senate Majority Leader McConnell in the fall. 

Former Marine pilot Amy McGrath and freshman lawmaker Charles Booker were the leading vote-getters in the crowded Democratic primary. 

Many outcomes might not be known for a week until counties submit vote totals.
