KENTUCKY, USA — If you’re heading to the polls on Election Day, here’s what you need to bring with you to help make your voting experience a smooth process in Kentucky.
The easiest form of identification is a state issued driver’s license or identification card.
The Kentucky State Board of Elections says other acceptable forms of ID include those from schools, military, merchant marine and passports.
What if you don’t have a driver’s license?
You can obtain a Kentucky Standard Credential for $23 which is valid for eight years. In 2025, you will not be able to use this ID if you plan on using air travel, visiting military bases or federal buildings. The alternative is the REAL ID personal ID for $28 and you will be able to use it for the latter.

If you cannot obtain a photo ID you may sign a “Reasonable Impediment Declaration" and present one of the following IDs:
- Social Security card.
- Any ID issued by a county in Kentucky that has been approved by the State Board of Elections and shows your name.
- Any ID card with both your photograph and name.
- Any food stamp ID card, electronic benefit transfer card, or supplemental nutrition assistance card issued by Kentucky that shows your name.
- Credit or debit card that shows your name.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, across the United States. Polls open in Kentucky at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
