Kentucky auditor to open investigation over state's Kinship Bill

The bill gives children removed from an abusive home the power to give the court a list of relatives they believe could be their caregivers.

The Kentucky state auditor announced on Wednesday her office will open an investigation into the Beshear Administration's implementation of the Kinship Bill.

The bill gives children removed from an abusive home the power to give the court a list of relatives they believe could be their caregivers. It also gives those family members time to determine if they can financially support the child.

However, it hasn't been implemented yet due to a lack of funding.

Wednesday during a committee hearing, Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball announced her office will open an inquiry into the governor's office.

"This is just a preliminary assessment, and it's to get the actual facts, so that way this issue can be resolved once and for all, hopefully just implementing the bill that's already been passed," she said.

In previous interviews with WHAS11 News, Gov. Andy Beshear has said he supports the Kinship Bill, however, the legislature failed to include funding for the bill in this year's budget which is why his office cannot properly implement the bill.
