LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams has received a huge honor.
Adams was presented with the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award Sunday night at the JFK Library in Boston.
The award recognizes public servants at all levels of government who have risked their careers and put the public interest ahead.
Adams was celebrated for his work to expand voting rights and standing up for free and fair elections in Kentucky.
As a Republican, Adams faced party opposition and threats from election deniers.
“Today’s politics penalizes the workhorse, and rewards the show horse,” he said. “It prizes provocateurs and punishes problem solvers.”
Adams emphasized that courage to do what’s right and independent democracy is more important than ever, rather than jumping on the social media mob.
"As touched, and as grateful beyond words, as I am to be given this award, part of me wishes it didn’t need to exist, and that political courage should not have to be a thing," he said.
Secretary Adams has served in the role since 2020.
