LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The 2020 elections are more than a year away, but all eyes are on Kentucky and the race for senator.
Fighter pilot Amy McGrath officially announced her run for Senate Tuesday, challenging longtime Senator and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“I’m running to replace Mitch McConnell in the U.S. Senate. Everything that’s wrong with Washington had to start somewhere—it started with him. With your help, we can defeat Mitch and defend democracy,” McGrath said in a post on Twitter.
Despite McGrath’s announcement, Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones said he is still considering a run.
Jones says one of his factors are the people he’d represent, like the hundreds of coal miners whose paychecks bounced when their company shut down in eastern Kentucky.
Jones says he likes McGrath and wishes her well.
His decision on whether he’s in or out is expected in the coming weeks.
