LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Vice President Kamala Harris is meeting with her top choices for running mate Sunday in Washington, D.C., according to multiple reports.

Harris is meeting with at least three contenders - Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, according to ABC News. The meetings were reported earlier Sunday by the New York Times.

Noticeably absent from that list is Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. He has been in the running mate conversation from the beginning and submitted vetting materials to the Harris campaign.

Harris is expected to announce her choice by Tuesday.

Beshear appeared at a Harris campaign event last weekend in Georgia. The Kentucky governor cleared his schedule this weekend, even skipping the annual Kentucky Fancy Farm Picnic on Saturday, one of the biggest political gatherings of the year in the state.

Beshear posted a photo to social media Saturday night indicating he and his son were in Louisville attending the Savannah Bananas baseball game. He posted a brief message Sunday on X, formerly known as Twitter:

"We have so much to be thankful for, Kentucky. Let's keep lifting each other up and leading with love," Beshear said.

Beshear will be in Chicago Monday to hold a fundraising event for Harris. He was the keynote speaker at a fundraiser in Iowa last weekend for the state's Democratic party.

Beshear is the most popular Democratic governor in the United States. He won re-election last year in a state Donald Trump carried in 2020 by 26 points.

His ability to win votes in red counties is among his biggest potential assets to the Harris ticket.
