CHICAGO — The first night of the Democratic National Convention will have a little Kentucky flair.

Gov. Andy Beshear will give a speech to a packed United Center Monday night. He confirmed the news Monday morning in a video on social media.

"I'm going to be speaking tonight at the Democratic National Convention from this stage with a full arena talking about how we've got to elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States," he said. "Join us."

A time was not specified, but main programming begins at 6:30 p.m. EST. President Joe Biden is also speaking Monday night.

You can watch live coverage of the convention every night this week on WHAS11+, available to download for free on Roku, FireTV and AppleTV.

Beshear is the fifth-to-last speaker of the night, according to a list sent out by the DNC.

Beshear was one of a handful of candidates vetted by the Kamala Harris campaign to be her running mate. He is also at the convention as a Kentucky delegate.

"When you go into something like this, you want to make sure it's a good fit for the vice president," Beshear told WHAS11 earlier this month after missing out on the nod. "But you also want to make sure it's a good fit for you. And so, I was always waiting to have that conversation about what the actual role would be because I made a promise to Kentuckians that I would only consider it if I felt that it would help our people in a different and important way. So, I was still waiting for that conversation, but let me just say, it's important that Vice President Harris wins."

Beshear said last week he believes the extra attention placed on him and the state during the "Veepstakes" process will lead to additional investment in Kentucky. He also said he doesn't plan on considering any cabinet positions in a Harris Administration.
