Rep. Nima Kulkarni is still able to run for reelection

Rep. Nima Kulkarni said her team is “absolutely taking this to the Supreme Court.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky State representative in Louisville has a chance to keep her seat after initially being disqualified.

Nima Kulkarni represents House District 40, which covers south Louisville.

Her opponent filed a lawsuit claiming her campaign paperwork was improperly filed, but Kulkarni won the primary in May.

After a lower court ruling, the Kentucky Supreme Court disqualified Kulkarni from reelection back in June.

From there, it was unclear who would be the nominee.

But on Thursday, the Supreme Court cleared it up and effectively moved the issue to the secretary of state's office.

Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams responded to the ruling on social media, saying he plans to let both political parties nominate a candidated for an ultimate vote in November.

Kulkarni's lawyer previously told WHAS11 she plans to seek nomination.

Kulkarni has served in the role since 2018 after beating former Democrat state Rep. Dennis Horlander.
