LEXINGTON, Ky (WHAS11) -- The statue of a Confederate general was sprayed painted Friday evening with the words "Black Lives Matter".
The statue, which stands outside the old courthouse in Lexington, is of General John Hunt Morgan. Morgan was born in Lexington and would become a Confederate general who was known for his raids into southern Indiana and Ohio called 'Morgan's Raids'. He was eventually killed in 1864 and buried in Lexington Cemetery.
Parks and Recreation will clean the statue as police finish their investigating. The crime is classified as third degree criminal mischief.
