If you find yourself traveling through Brownville anytime soon, be aware of a dead, frozen animal that might be eerily staring back at you from the roadside.

A photo of the motionless coyote placed standing in the snow — posted to Facebook by Trevor Gardner, ME (NEWSCENTERMAINE.com) — had hundreds of shares as of Friday night.

"Right outta Brownville," the post read. "Just your average day in Maine folks."

It's believed the taxidermic-looking creature became frozen after being hit and killed by a vehicle. Someone then decided to prop it up in the snowbank.

Gardner said his father, Bill, noticed the stiff animal off of Davis Street, also known as Millinocket Road, and grabbed a photo. Gardner said he and his dad are both courier delivery drivers, and that Brownville is in Bill's route.

The same day Garnder posted the photo, a screenshot of the image on Maine humor and satire website Maine Memes' Instagram got nearly 2,000 likes.

It wasn't clear Friday whether the coyote remained there. "Animals could've gotten to it by now," Gardner said, "but it was frozen solid, so I doubt it."

A similar scene was captured in 2016 in Burnstown, Ottawa.
