LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Wednesday started off rocky for the University of Louisville men's basketball team, and things got worse before the night was over.
The Cardinals (4-6, 0-1 ACC) lost a player midday when the team issued a statement saying guard Koron Davis had been dismissed from the program. This followed an initial statement earlier in the day saying Davis informed the team he was entering the transfer portal.
Davis issued a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, disputing that claim, saying he never told the team he was transferring.
"I didn’t express to anyone at U of Louisville that I wanted to transfer," Davis said in the post. "I never asked to transfer. I enjoy being a Cardinal. The fact an official statement was released giving false information is disheartening and sad."

UofL then sent the second statement saying he had been dismissed from the team.
Head coach Kenny Payne was asked a few times about the situation in his postgame press conference, but didn't provide details. He also said he couldn't explain why the team issued two different statements.
"I don’t want to really dwell on it," Payne said. "I care about the kid and I wish him the best.
"It’s emotional for me simply because he’s a good kid. It’s one of those circumstances. But we’ve already addressed it."
Louisville then played in front of a sparse Yum! Center crowd - with Davis in attendance - culminating in another defeat. This time a 75-63 decision to Arkansas State, which entered the night 3-7 and hadn't beat a Power 5 team since the 2014-15 season.
Fans and analysts took to social media to share their thoughts and frustrations.
