LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It didn't take the University of Louisville football team long to crack the top 25 this season.
The Cardinals (1-0) were ranked No. 22 in the latest AP Top 25 poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon. Louisville was the top vote-getter in the preseason poll among all teams that just missed the cut.
The Cards blew out Austin Peay 62-0 at home Saturday behind Tyler Shough's four touchdown passes. The Texas Tech transfer finished his UofL debut 18 of 24 for 232 yards in just two quarters.
Louisville spent 11 weeks in the top 25 last year. They were ranked as high as No. 9.
UofL hosts Jacksonville State (0-1) Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Kentucky received two votes in the latest poll.
The Wildcats shut out Southern Mississippi 31-0 Saturday in a game shortened by lightning. Brock Vandagriff threw three touchdown passes in a little more than two quarters.
The game was called with almost 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Kentucky was ranked No. 20 last season in early October.
UK hosts South Carolina (1-0) Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
Georgia (1-0) remained No. 1 in the new poll after an impressive win over Clemson, and Ohio State stayed No. 2 after blowing out Akron.
Oregon (1-0) dropped from No. 3 to No. 7 after a narrow victory over Idaho.
