LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Scottie Scheffler is having the time of his life.
The No. 1 golfer in the world won The Masters last month for his second green jacket. Then his wife Meredith gave birth to their first child last week -- a boy named Bennett.
Scheffler wasted no time Thursday getting back into the swing of things during the first round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club. His first shot was a beautiful drive into the fairway of the first hole. His next shot went in it.
Scheffler stood 167 yards away from the flagstick for his second shot. He hit a towering iron shot and watched his ball bounce inches from the hole, and then finding the bottom.
The eagle drew roars from the crowd and a "Hello dad" from commentator Jim Nantz.
Scheffler, 27, is looking to win his first PGA Championship this week after finishing in a tie for second last year.
Xander Schauffele fired a first-round 62, tying the record for lowest score at a major, earlier in the day.
