LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As the 150th Kentucky Derby quickly approaches, registration has opened for a touching tradition honoring those fighting cancer ahead of the Run for the Roses.
The 2024 Kentucky Oaks Survivors Parade will take place on Friday, May 3. This year, 150 breast and ovarian cancer survivors and fighters will take the unforgettable march around the historic racetrack at Churchill Downs.
HOW TO APPLY
Anyone who has overcome or is currently battling a breast or ovarian cancer diagnosis, and who have never participated in the Survivors Parade, are encouraged to share their story by Tuesday, Feb. 20.
If you'd like to nominate a potential participant, officials ask you share the registration link with them so they can submit the relevant qualifying information.
Officials said, as with last year, participants will be chosen randomly to optimize equal opportunity and consideration. Winners will be announced on Feb. 26.
This will be the 16th Survivors Parade and it will celebrate the work of two organizations providing critical services and care to underserved women across the region who may lack access to breast care screenings: Derby Divas and Horses and Hope.
According to a news release, the Kentucky Oaks charitable initiative has raised more than $1 million for breast and ovarian health awareness over the past 15 years.
In addition to a call for submissions, officials are encouraging fans to donate to the Kentucky Oaks charitable partners.
