LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A highly sought after Sacred Heart basketball player has made her decision on where she will take her skills to the next level.
ZaKiyah Johnson announced she has committed to playing at Louisiana State University (LSU).
The 5-star and three-time Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year picked coach Kim Mulkey’s Tigers over Louisville and Kentucky on Sunday.
Choosing LSU over home schools like Louisville and Kentucky was not easy for Johnson, but said she feels like she found a new home in Baton Rouge.
"It just came down to 'do you want to stay home, or do you want to leave?' I was just sitting there and was kinda like, 'I want to do something different’," she explained to WHAS11 News sports anchor Mason Horodyski.
Johnson also feels she fits right into the culture of LSU women’s basketball.
“A lot of people say I give off the Angel Resse vibe,” she said. “[LSU] is the big stage, and I love the glam and all that – but we’re also gonna get buckets.”
