Freshman Glenn sets career highs, leads Louisville past Georgia Tech 79-67

The Cards now have won back-to-back ACC home games for the first time under second-year coach Kenny Payne.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Freshman Kaleb Glenn scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, both career highs, and Louisville closed with a 21-5 run over the final five minutes to beat Georgia Tech 79-67 on Saturday night.

After posting a 101-92 home win over Florida State before falling 94-92 at Syracuse, the Cardinals now have won back-to-back ACC home games for the first time under second-year coach Kenny Payne. Louisville now has won 14 of its last 16 games with the Yellow Jackets.

Louisville (8-16, 3-10 Atlantic Coast) trailed by nine, 60-51 after Miles Kelly hit two free throws for Georgia Tech with 8:15 left. Mike James sandwiched a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer around a Glenn layup to pull the Cardinals within two. Carter Murphy scored at the basket for Georgia Tech, but James and Skyy Clark both hit a pair at the foul line to tie the game at 62-62 with 4:25 left.

Glenn dunked to put Louisville in front, Tre White knocked down a 3 at the three-minute mark, and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield scored at the basket to push the lead to 69-62. Glenn and White each scored at the basket and Huntley-Hatfield, White and Ty-Laur Johnson each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to close out the win.

Glenn shot 7 of 10 from the field to lead six Louisville players in double figures. White hit 2 of 4 from long range and was 4 for 4 at the free-throw line to score 14 with six rebounds. Huntley-Hatfield and Johnson both added 12 points and James and Clark each scored 11. The Cardinals were just 22 of 57 from the floor (38.6%), including just 4 of 18 from 3-point range (22.2%), but knocked down 31 of 34 from the free-throw line (91.2%).

Kelly hit 11 of 20 from the field and was 6 of 11 from distance to lead Georgia Tech (10-14, 3-10) with a career-high 36 points after going scoreless against Wake Forest on Tuesday. He was the lone Yellow Jacket to reach double figures.

Georgia Tech plays at Notre Dame on Wednesday. Louisville travels to face Boston College on Tuesday.
