LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – How close was Louisville’s Jordan Nwora to staying in the NBA Draft?
Nwora didn’t make his decision until he was in an airport in Chicago on the final day.
He said he would have definitely been picked but it just wasn’t where he wanted in the first round.
It was a tough decision which made the event even tougher due to a calf injury.
Nwora couldn’t work out of teams and prove himself.
“It’s just [the] wrong timing but everything happens for a reason. I’ve never been hurt in my life. That’s the first time I’ve had to sit out for something. There’s nothing major, so, I’m back now. I’ll be fine,” Nwora said during a press conference Tuesday.
UofL Head Coach Chris Mack added, “He did make, in my opinion, an extremely mature decision. I think – you know – I don’t know what the percentage would be, but it seems like 8 out of 10 guys if they knew they were going to get selected in the Draft, that it would be good enough for them in 2019.”
Nwora’s injury could be the best thing to happen for next year’s Louisville team.
With the return of Nwora and Steven Enoch, who also withdrew his name from the draft, the Cards could be a top 10 team heading into the new season.
